Toyota’s ambitious objective is to develop an electric vehicle that surpasses the current long-range capabilities of the Tesla Model Y. The company aims to create an electric vehicle that can travel over 1,000 kilometers on a single charge and achieve a full recharge in just 10 minutes. This projected range significantly exceeds the range offered by the long-range version of the Tesla Model Y, which can travel approximately 530 kilometers per charge based on US standards. By pushing the boundaries of range and charging speed, Toyota seeks to provide customers with an exceptional electric driving experience.
Toyota has made significant progress in addressing the durability challenges associated with solid-state batteries, which they consider a “technological breakthrough.” The company is actively working on mass production methods for these batteries and plans to introduce them to the commercial market by 2027.
Solid-state batteries are seen as a promising solution to address the limited range concerns in the shift towards EVs, as they have the potential to store more energy compared to current liquid electrolyte batteries. In addition to battery advancements, Toyota is actively developing a dedicated EV platform to reduce manufacturing costs for new models. Toyota is deploying a state-of-the-art automated assembly line that eliminates the reliance on conventional conveyor belt systems. This advanced assembly process enables vehicles to autonomously navigate through each stage of production.
